OUR MISSION
We built AncestorOS because the tools available to genealogists were either too consumer-casual to take seriously, or too enterprise-complex to actually use. There had to be a better way.
THE PROBLEM
Research logs in one app, trees in another, invoices on a spreadsheet, documents in a folder. No one place for all of it.
The big platforms are built for hobbyists. Professionals need client management, time tracking, and billing — none of which existed.
Subscription genealogy platforms treat your family data as a reason to keep you locked in. Your tree shouldn't be held hostage.
OUR STORY
AncestorOS was born from a conversation between a father and son. Elijah, a software developer, watched his father Michael — an Accredited Genealogist with decades of research experience — juggling spreadsheets, scattered notes, and consumer apps that were never built for serious work. The tools simply weren't worthy of the craft.
Elijah built the first version to fix that. Michael shaped every feature with the perspective of a working professional genealogist. What started as a personal project grew into a full platform — one that serves both families preserving their history and professional researchers who need a real business toolkit alongside their tree.
OUR VALUES
Your family data is yours. We don't sell it, mine it, or use it to train AI models. Full stop.
Genealogy research is real work. We built professional tools that treat it that way — with invoicing, time tracking, and client management that actually works.
We'd rather get source citations right than add another AI-generated "discovery." Serious research needs serious tools.
Offline PWA, mobile-first, fast. Your research shouldn't wait for a good WiFi connection.
THE FOUNDERS
AncestorOS is an independent, family-built product — a software developer and an Accredited Genealogist who got tired of watching the profession make do with tools that weren't good enough.
Elijah is a software developer and entrepreneur who builds software that bridges business ideas and technical execution. He created Trackara, an automotive maintenance suite for enthusiasts and mobile mechanics, before turning his focus to genealogy when he saw how underserved professional researchers were by existing tools. He built AncestorOS to give genealogists and families a platform worthy of the work they do.
LinkedInMichael is a credentialed genealogist and military historian whose research expertise is recognized in the judicial systems of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, where he serves as an expert witness in kinship determinations and forensic estate investigations. He holds a B.A. in History from Shepherd University and an M.A. in History from the University of Massachusetts Boston. His published work spans books, peer-reviewed journal articles, and public history writing at the intersection of military history and genealogy — and his real-world practice as a working professional genealogist shaped every feature in AncestorOS.
