Manage tests from every major company

AncestorOS supports test kits from AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage DNA, FamilyTreeDNA, LivingDNA, or any other company under the "Other" option. For each kit, record the company name, kit number, test date, and status — either Active (results available) or Pending (still processing). Keep all your testing accounts organized in one place.

Enter and filter your matches

For each DNA match, log their name, the amount of shared DNA in centiMorgans (cM), number of shared segments, which company the match is from, your predicted relationship, and any notes. Then filter your match list by cM range — close family (≥200 cM), 1st cousin range, 2nd cousin range, or distant matches under 50 cM. Link any match to a person already in your family tree to identify who each match corresponds to.

Know what any cM value means

The built-in cM reference table is available right in the app — no need to look anything up externally. It shows expected DNA ranges for every relationship type from Parent/Child (~2300–3900 cM) and Full Sibling (~1700–2900 cM) down through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cousins, all the way to Distant / 5th+ Cousins (0–20 cM). Use it to evaluate any match and calibrate your predicted relationship.

cM Reference Table
Parent / Child 2300 – 3900 cM
Full Sibling 1700 – 2900 cM
1st Cousin 550 – 1200 cM
2nd Cousin 41 – 592 cM
Distant / 5th+ 0 – 20 cM

Three steps to organized DNA research

All manual, all yours. Log at your own pace as results come in.

1

Add your DNA test kit

Enter the testing company, your kit number, and the date you ordered. Set the status to Pending while you wait for results, then update it to Active when your results arrive. Repeat for each company you've tested with.

2

Log your matches

For each match: enter their name, shared cM, number of segments, which company the match is from, your predicted relationship, and any notes you want to keep. Use the built-in cM reference table if you need help interpreting a value.

3

Link matches to your tree

When you identify who a match is, connect them to a person already in your family tree using the dropdown selector. Your Linked to Tree count on the stats dashboard updates automatically, showing how much of your match list has been identified.

Everything DNA research needs

Manual entry keeps your data under your control — no third-party sync required.

Multi-company support

Track kits from AncestryDNA, 23andMe, MyHeritage DNA, FamilyTreeDNA, LivingDNA, or any other company — all in the same place.

cM range filtering

Filter your match list by close family (≥200 cM), 1st cousin range, 2nd cousin range, distant cousins (<50 cM), or view all matches at once.

Link matches to your tree

Connect any DNA match to a person in your family tree. Once linked, you always know exactly who that match corresponds to.

Built-in cM reference table

Every relationship from Parent/Child to Distant / 5th+ Cousins with expected cM ranges — available without leaving the app.

Stats overview

At a glance: total DNA tests, total matches logged, how many are linked to your tree, and how many are close matches above 200 cM.

Manual entry — your data stays yours

No sync with Ancestry or 23andMe. You enter your own matches, which means your data lives in your AncestorOS account — nowhere else.

Common questions

No. AncestorOS uses manual entry for DNA matches. You log your test kits and matches yourself, which means your data stays entirely within your account and is never pulled from a third-party service without your input.
cM stands for centiMorgans — a unit used to measure how much DNA two people share. A higher cM value means a closer relationship. For example, a parent and child share roughly 2300–3900 cM, while a 2nd cousin shares roughly 41–592 cM. The built-in cM reference table in AncestorOS covers all common relationship types.
When adding or editing a DNA match, use the "Link to Person" dropdown to search and select any person already in your family tree. Once linked, that match is counted in your Linked to Tree stat on the DNA dashboard, so you can track how many of your matches have been positively identified.
The table shows expected shared DNA ranges for: Parent/Child (~2300–3900 cM), Full Sibling (~1700–2900 cM), Half Sibling (~1160–2650 cM), Grandparent/Grandchild (~1150–2210 cM), 1st Cousin (~550–1200 cM), 2nd Cousin (~41–592 cM), 3rd Cousin (~0–173 cM), 4th Cousin (~0–84 cM), and Distant / 5th+ Cousins (0–20 cM).
Yes. The filter bar includes a "Linked" option to show only matches that have been connected to a person in your tree, and you can also filter to show only unlinked matches — making it easy to work through your match list and identify unknown relatives.
